PRAYER FOR ONE'S PARENTS
Imam Jaffer Sadiq (as) said: "The dead ones are pleased and displeased the same was as we are; when we remember them with prayers for forgiveness and reward, they are delighted. These are taken by the Angels as special gifts to them and they in turn pray for the living ones for their kindness."
To seek the pleasure of the departed souls, especially one's parents through various forms of Ibaadat are many - One such form is to remember one's departed parents by offering Namaaz-e-Waaledaine (the prayer). The thawaab for this act of kindness is immense to both the Marhoomeen and to the children.
The Namaaz consists of two rakaats and the Niyat should be: "I am offering two rakaats Namaaz-E-Hadiya Waaledain, Qurbatan Illallah."
In the first rakaat after the recitation of Sura Al-Hamd, recite with raised hands as in qunoot, ten times the following dua:
"Rabbanaghfirlee wa lai waaledaiyya wa lil mo'mineena yauma yaqumul hisab." 14:41
"Our Lord! Cover us with Thy forgiveness, myself, my parents and all believers on the day that the reckoning will be established."
Complete the first rakaat by rukoo and sajdah.
Now stand up for the second rakaat. After the recitation of Sura Al-Hamd, recite with raised hands, as in qunoot, ten times the under-mentioned dua:
"Rabbanaghfirlee wa lai waaledaiyya wa liman dakhala baiteya momeenan wa lil momineena wal mo'minaat." 71:28
"Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents and those who enter my house with belief and men who believe and women who believe."
Now, complete the second rakaat and Namaaz.
Go into Sajdah and recite the following dua ten times:
"Rabbir ham huma kama rabba-yanee sagheera." 17:24
"Lord be merciful to them for they have brought me up in my childhood."
* A shorter version of the above namaaz is given below which also consists of two rakaats:
In the fast rakaat after the recitation of sura Al-Hamd, raise your hands as in qunoot and recite the following dua twenty times:
"Rabbir ham huma kama rabba-yanee sagheera." 17:24
"Lord be merciful to them for they have brought me up in my childhood."
Now complete the first rakaat with rukoo and sajdah. Stand up for the second rakaat and complete the second rakaat and namaaz as normal. Then raise your hands as in qunoot and recite ten times the following:
"Rabbir ham huma kama rabba-yanee sagheera." 17:24
"Lord be merciful to them for they have brought me up in my childhood."
"Our Lord! Cover us with Thy forgiveness, myself, my parents and all believers on the day that the reckoning will be established."
"Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents and those who enter my house with belief and men who believe and women who believe."
"Lord be merciful to them for they have brought me up in my childhood."
"Lord be merciful to them for they have brought me up in my childhood."
"Lord be merciful to them for they have brought me up in my childhood."
